Teens and adolescence course
Hi, I am Hanlie and will be your lecturer online on Friday afternoon and Saturday, 15-16 August 2025. We learn to understand our teenagers in a holistic way in this 12 hour short course.
We’ll spend our time in the following way:
Friday:
Session 1: 14:00-17:00 (check-in from 13:30)
Session 2: 17:30-20:30
Saturday:
Session 3: 09:00-12:00 (reflection and check-in from 08:30)
Session 4: 12:30-15:30
A Zoom link will be provided at the latest during the week leading up to the course.

About Teens and adolescence
This programme invites participants into the world of the Teenager and Young Adult. It equips practitioners (counsellors, psychologists, social workers, youth ministry workers, pastors) with what they need to know about youth culture, parent-child relationships, the adolescent experience of spirituality, and the teenage brain.
For who is the course
- Everyone working with children such as pastoral counsellors, narrative therapists, counsellors, psychologists, coaches, mentors, teachers, pastors, and of course parents.
- Anyone with an interest in exploring the beautiful wacky life of our teens.
Outcomes
- Gain knowledge to better mentor, counsel, parent adolescents;
- Understanding how the brain of the adolescent works and what that means for those of significance in their lives;
- Develop sensitivity towards the spiritual development of adolescents and how that influences identity formation and belonging;
- Being able to spot and counter the effects of social media and unhealthy discourses in the life of the adolescent.
