Welly den Hollander
I grew up in the Netherlands where I studied Social Work. In 1987 we moved to the UK where I was a stay-home mom for 4 years. Our family then moved to South Africa. I worked as a medical social worker at McCord hospital, was part of the Sinikithema HIV clinic and was manager of the Siyahlanganisa training program for HIV/AIDS counsellors. During my Masters at UKZN I developed an interest in narrative therapy and for my PhD in Social Science I looked at narrative therapy training for pastoral counsellors in KZN. The study was in collaboration with the Department of Religion and Culture.

I joined a monthly narrative conversation group. I further trained as a coach and family mediator. I presently work for the UNISA social work department as a mentor for supervisors and fourth level facilitator. In my private practice I focus on oncology social work and clients with challenges related to sexuality. I facilitate art therapy groups and organise camps and retreats at our care farm in Cato Ridge. I enjoy painting and ceramics and play the flute.
